Superflight

Release: 2017
We're excited to bring you Superflight, a wingsuit highscore game where you fly through colorful abstract mountainscapes and try to score as many points as possible by performing risky proximity maneuvers.

Our goal with this game is to give players a simple but unique experience that captures the incredible feeling of speed and risk we know from GoPro-wingsuit-videos and combines it with a sense of discovery and “what will that next world look like?". Therefore, the game provides a wide variety of procedurally generated maps for players to explore on their search for the perfect route to beat the latest highscore. Our color-generation system creates 1000s of beautiful colorschemes to make sure each new map really feels different and delivers a sense of novelty and discovery. If you’ve found a map that you really like, our seed system lets you save and share it with other players.

Instead of trying to hook our players to the game for as long as possible, our goal with Superflight is to give people something to relax to for a few minutes every now and then, enjoy exploring a few maps and try to beat their last highscore - at the price of a coffee to go.

Superflight was developed by a team of 3 game design students at HTW-Berlin in just 3 months. As part of our bachelor program, we had three months, a set of constraints and an endless stream of support from our professors, coaches, friends and families to make this game. After showcasing the game at Quo-Vadis Conference in Berlin, where Superflight was nominated for the Best of Quo Vadis 2017 Award, the team decided to independently publish the game on Steam.

Features

Considering the short development time, we decided early on that procedurally generated content was for us the way to go. Our terrain generation system offers the player an infinite range of different worlds suitable for maneuvers and exploration, while allowing our team of 3 to focus on developing the game’s innovative movement and polishing the experience.

Inspired by breathtaking GoPro-Wingsuit videos, the game's controls and flight-physics are designed to let players perform insane maneuvers at top speed from the get go.

We've developed a system we call "Color Shifting" to generate a near infinite number of beautiful, harmonizing color-schemes for the game. Color Shifting allows us to give each generated world in the game a fresh and unique feeling and to use color combinations that we would've never imagined could work. Other than just tinting the game’s colors, which can result in a monochrome look with little variation, color shifting creates vibrant colorschemes, ranging from bright, saturated worlds to more subdued, moody palettes.
