Scraper: First Strike

Release: 2018
Scraper is an original RPG sci-fi shooter that delivers gamers to the future megacity of New Austin, Texas, where they must battle renegade robots in high-rise skyscraper complexes to save humanity. A standalone game, Scraper: First Strike, which is Episode I, will premiere on all four major VR platforms in late 2018, in advance of the full Scraper game scheduled for release on console and PC in 2020.

“Our plan is to launch Scraper in phases,” says Jim Ivon, founder of Labrodex Studios and the creator of Scraper. “The first phase was the publication of Scraper: The Rise of Cifer, a novel that serves as a prequel to the game.” Written by bestselling author Ryder Windham, the novel introduces gamers to the world of Scraper, and to the main characters featured in the game. “The novel ends right where the game begins, with the heroes aboard a stolen dropship, on a mission to reclaim a Reactor Building that’s been seized by scores of enemy robots.”

New Austin was more than a refuge from the wastelands of a world ravaged by wars, disasters, and disease. It was the perfect city, a Scraper megacity, with residential complexes that housed millions, food-production towers that extended above the clouds, and robots that served to fulfill every need. But after the world’s most advanced AI witnessed an act of human aggression that endangered every life on Earth, he decided to take care of humanity . . . permanently.

SCRAPER, a sci-fi shooter with RPG and exploration elements, will take the player on a journey through a new IP with fully-developed characters, story arcs, and a world filled with unique and exciting environments.
In SCRAPER: First Strike, the player takes on the role of Casey Maxwell, a Modified Hover Pod pilot, and a member of the Human Resistance Force (HRF). Your mission is to help the HRF reclaim Reactor Building 3 from enemy Humech robots, restore power to a secret military base, and drive back the robots that have seized New Austin. You’ll explore the world with full-locomotion controls, and will be able to modify your weapons, engineer new parts for your MHP (Modified Hover Pod), and barter for consumables that will help you on your journey. If you have what it takes to carry out dangerous missions, and infiltrate highly secure levels, sign up now at ScraperNetwork.com with the HRF and help defeat the Humechs!

POD Plugin Feature: In Scraper, when the player is not traveling on foot, they will be traveling in their MHP (Modified Hover Pod). The MHP serves as the player’s mobile command center. The POD can plugin into multiple forms of travel, offensive and defensive machinery, along with mission or world specific devices.

In future episodes, imagine being at ground level and about to be overwhelmed by hordes of Humechs. The player can plug into a Battle Tank and control it via the MHP’s console, blasting away at Humech forces. Or, if the city is being attacked by Humech Stinger ships, the player can plug into a fighter ship, fly around and decimate Humech aerial units. During missions, the player will need to plug into devices like a lifter, that will be used to grind up materials, move and replace objects, and be essential to complete core game play objectives.

Although the MHP can be upgraded, modified and customized for most combat needs, other forms of travel are coming, like a fully operational Mech Suit that the player will plug into, and which can also be customized with specific armor, shields, systems, and weapons.

Trading System: Enemies, containers, and bosses will drop loot of all sorts that will allow players to build and upgrade their weapons and vehicles. With a robust trading system, the player will be able to buy consumable augmentations, equipment modifications, and acquire missing schematic ingredients to customize their journey according to their playstyle. Avid explorers will be rewarded with additional loot drops and rare items.

Schematics: A dream MHP isn’t realized overnight. Players will need to dedicate time to finding schematics and parts during their journey. Only then will they be able to construct their perfect MHP with the Engineering System.

Engineering System: Players can build equipment, upgraded parts for their Modified Hover Pod and new weapon systems from the scraps and materials found while completing missions.

Scavenging: The player can hunt down items and farm bots for specific parts to make sure they have the necessary components to assemble the schematics they have looted or downloaded.

Ranking Up: In future episodes, Scraper will include the ability to rank up your character. You start out as a Lieutenant in the HRF. During the course of game play, you’ll be able to rank up based on your accomplishments and contributions to the HRF.

Maintenance and Repair: Your POD will need to be taken care of and will certainly take damage during your dangerous travels. The game features Maintenance Pads where you can restock your ammo, repair your POD hull, and recharge your POD’s power core.

Multiplayer: For the full game release in 2020, Scraper will offer multiplayer battles. These will be in the form of arena style one-on-one battles, or MHP vs MHP, 3 vs 3 play or survival of the fittest with choose your vehicle type play.

Lore: There are valuable pieces of information scattered throughout the world of Scraper. They can be hidden in terminals or investigated using your POD’s built-in scanner, which can survey NPCs, important structures, enemies and leaders of the Humech faction. Gain useful insight about past events, specific characters, enemies, and structures while exploring the world of New Austin.

Unique Enemies and Epic Bosses: Each enemy has a unique set of abilities, weak spots, and elemental resistances, all of which can be investigated with the MHPs scanner for a full readout of defenses. By using these readouts and planning your weapon loadout, you can quickly and efficiently take care of enemy forces. Resistances and weapon types in the game include Plasma, Kinetic, Cryo, Heat, Energy and Electric.

HRF Network: The HRF has developed an underground network in order to communicate secretly worldwide. This network can be accessed to acquire critical information, new plans for the HRF Vendor or schematics for better equipment. One of your many HRF responsibilities include uploading your discoveries to the HRF Network to contribute to its arsenal and better the chances of the HRF to combat Cifer and his forces.

Mission System: In SCRAPER VR, players will tackle a variety of action-packed missions and objectives. In their effort to defeat Humech enemies, players can expect to collect materials, activate terminals, defend stations, repair machines, and escort key NPCs to numerous locations in the Scraper megacity.

Energy Management: A skilled Modified Hover POD pilot practices efficient energy management. During tough fights you can divert energy to your weapons, shields and cooldowns to better match a specific enemy type. Be careful though, excessive use can lead to Power Core drain and diminished MHP capabilities.

Customization: Players can experiment with different combinations of abilities and weapons to find the best offensive setup that matches their playstyle. Players can also personalize the exterior and interior of their POD in future episodes.

Weapons: At launch, SCRAPER is planning to provide numerous weapons for Episode I. These include Blasters, a Plasma Mini-Gun, Grenade Launcher, Missile Launcher, Flame Thrower, Shotgun and a Cryo Rifle.

Abilities: By use of the utility slots on your MHP, players will be able enhance their gameplay and crowd-control abilities with options like boost, stealth and an Electro Magnetic Pulse to disrupt surrounding enemies. Upcoming episodes will introduce more diverse abilities.

Modification: Modification chips can be attached to utility items, weapons, and equipment to enhance a specific trait, allowing for deep customization and solutions for troublesome situations

Consumables: Crafted by Tech Sergeants, players will be able to make and use consumable items that will give them temporary boosts to things like DPS, Accuracy and recharge rates.

Aesthetics: For later episodes and the full game release, the player will be able to customize their POD. This can be done through paint jobs, decals, bobble heads, tattoos and graffiti. In addition, clothing, armor types and personal enhancements will also be available.
