Set in the 28th Century, Humanity have expanded beyond Earth and slowly spread across the neighboring stars. Traveling between the colonies remains an expensive, dangerous and slow process.
On the isolated and harsh mining planet of Pentum, various factions mining side by side discover a new mineral, with unusual properties. After sending samples back to civilization for testing, news comes back: This new mineral may be the key to unlocking faster-than-light speeds on spaceships! Suddenly, the new mineral may be the most valuable material in the Universe, and everyone wants a piece.
As prices for the mineral skyrocket to absurd levels, greed gets the better of some and they start mining deposits on other’s territory. A few incidents later, trains are outfitted with artillery cannons ostensibly to remove debris from train track, but their destructive capabilities are well noted. Rumors spread - larger factions are using gunboat diplomacy on their neighbors. As the miners rush to arm themselves, the planet is a powder keg waiting to explode…
